Heidi is an author and screenwriter of Mormon history and life. She has written Sacred Stone: The Temple at Nauvoo, and its companion book. This was the third in a documentary trilogy for the Public Broadcasting System. She wrote the PBS documentary and the accompanying book American Prophet: The Story of Joseph Smith. For that book, Deseret Book presented her with their “Excellence in Writing Award for 1999” and the National Independent Booksellers awarded her first place in their Biography category for the same year. She also authored the award-winning PBS documentary Trail of Hope: The Story of the Mormon Trail.
In 2004 she completed the script for the PBS documentary and book on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir under the title “America’s Choir” and in 2006 wrote a 5th PBS documentary and book on the Martin and Willie Handcart Companies titled “Sweetwater Rescue”.
She has been a member of the Relief Society General Board and vice-chair of the Board for This Is The Place Heritage Park. For 6 years she served on a General LDS Church Curriculum Writing Committee preparing manuals for the study of “Teachings of the Presidents of the Church”. She recently returned from 3 years in England, where she accompanied her husband who served as President of the England London South Mission.
She is married to Jeffrey C. Swinton, a former member of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy. They are the parents of 5 sons (4 living) and have 6 grandchildren.
In addition, the Morningside Stake Youth Choir, under the direction of Carole Terry, will add vocal numbers to the program for your enjoyment.
